2015 UCI World Championship - Elite Men Individual Time Trial

Kiryienka Wins Elite Men's ITT World Championship

Vasil Kiryienka of Belarus defeated Time Trial favorites Tony Martin (Germany), Tom Dumoulin (Netherlands) and Rohan Dennis (Australia). Kiryienka edged second place Adriano Malori (Italy) by 9 seconds. With the absence of Fabian Cancellara (Switzerland) and Bradley Wiggins (Great Britain) the time trial was expected to be a duel between Martin, the UCI Time Trial Champion for 2011, 2012 and 2013, Dumoulin, the Dutch National Time Trial Champion of 2014 and Dennis, 2015 Elite Men’s Team Time Trial Champion with BMC Racing Team.
Kiryienka won the 2015 Individual Time Trial in the 2015 Giro d’Italia in May. Kiryienka covered the tough 53 km (32.9 miles) course, placing first at all of the route intervals. Kiryienka had previously earned a bronze medal in 2012 and placed fourth in 2013 and 2014.
Dumoulin placed second in the Vuelta a Espana boosted by a strong time trial performance. However, in today’s time trial Dumoulin faded to fifth place, one minute behind. Dennis was performing well in the time trial until he suffered a flat with 25 km (15.5 miles) to go. Dennis had to change his bike and finished one minute and 8 seconds behind Kiryienka. Martin finished in seventh ending his streak of six consecutive UCI Time Trial podium finishes.
