2015 Vuelta a Espana Stage 1 Results

Peter Velits and BMC Racing Team finished with the fastest time in the 7.4 km Stage 1 Team Time Trial in of the Vuelta a Espana from Puerto Banus to  Marbella on the Costa del Sol. The stage was neutralized by the UCI due to potential unsafe conditions on the route. Only the stage winner and team competition placement were recorded for the stage and no individual times. Peter Velits crossed the finish line first for BMC and, therefore, will wear the traditional race leader's Red Jersey for Stage 2.

The Stage 1 route became controversial when Team Sky tweeted pictures from the route during their practice session. The route included a temporary plank causeway over beach sand, wooden bridge and a section of hard packed sand. The UCI allowed the race organizers to keep the route since it was too late to modify it but neutralize the individual results.
BMC are the current World Champion Time Trial Team. Despite the concern over the route, the team decided to race full throttle to make the best showing for the team. Some of the other teams were focused on getting through this flat and short time trial without incident.
