Amgen Tour of California Results

Stage 4 Results

Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) )wins Stage 4 in Avila Beach in dramatic fashion. A last second burst of speed propelled Sagan past Daniel Oss in the last 50 meters of the stage, crossing the line with a wheelie. Sagan broke his streak of 3 consecutive second place stage finishes in the Amgen Tour of California. Tom Skujins (Hincapie Racing Team) maintains the overall lead with four stages to go, 22 seconds ahead of Sagan.
This win may relieve some of the tension between Sagan and Oleg Tinkoff, the owner of the Tinkoff-Saxo team. Recently Tinkoff has been critical of Sagan’s lack of victories this spring saying "The team of my calibre should perform not only at Grand Tours, but all season - in the Classics and some other races - that's why I was disappointed."
Rain is predicted for Stage 5 today. The peloton will travel from Santa Barbara to Santa Clarita through Ojai. One of the KOM competitions will be Balcom Canyon Road with a .65-mile ascent with an average gradient of 13% with a maximum grade of 24%. Rain may make the following descent down Grimes Canyon Road treacherous since it has been months since the last rain storm and the road may be oily.
