Stage 3 Results

Tom Skujins surprised the field of riders with a solo breakaway in Stage 3 of the Amgen Tour of California taking the leader's jersey. The 23-year-old Latvian riding of the Hincapie Racing Team pulled away from the original breakaway group at the beginning of the Mount Hamilton climb, with 30 miles (48.2km) to go. Peter Sagan (Tinkoff-Saxo) placed second for the third stage in a row. Sagan is also second in the overall competition 32 seconds behind Skujins.
Stage 4 has only one significant climb, so sprinters will come forward again like in the first two stages. Stage 5 and Stage 6 might be affected by weather. A rain storm is approaching from the north. Stage 5 has a threat of light rain that may make the descents treacherous, especially since it has not rained in the area for weeks. The Stage 6 time trial on Friday may be cancelled due to snow Thursday night around Big Bear.
