Astana Pro Team Under Investigation
Luis León Sánchez, an Astana Pro Team teammate of Fabio Aru, pushed Aru within the final 1.5 km of the stage as Tom Dumoulin of Team Giant-Alpecin attacked the lead peloton group. Aru did not gain an advantage from the push. Aru lost three seconds to Dumoulin, falling to six seconds behind Dumoulin in the General Classification standings with one competitive stage left on Saturday before the final flat sprinters' stage on Sunday in Madrid.
A jury of officials is reviewing the videotape and will decide whether to penalize the team or the riders themselves. This jury ejected their teammate Vincenzo Nibali after he was aided by a team support car by hanging onto it for too long after a crash in Stage 2.
